The Executive Board

 

The Yale Debate Association is run by a board of five students who are elected by the team as a whole each year. This board is responsible for everything from selecting the year's class of novice debaters and handling the team's finances to making travel arrangements and planning the team's tournaments. Board 2020

President: Ellie Singer. Ellie is a junior in Benjamin Franklin college majoring in political science. She is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ellie debated in public forum and world schools debate with Team USA in high school. Before serving as President, Ellie was the YDA’s Development Director and an assistant tournament director for the Yale IV. In her free time, Ellie enjoys coffee, naps, and looking at dog and baby Instagram accounts. She can be reached at ellie.singer@yale.edu.

Director of Membership: Jack Kelly. Jack is a junior in Morse College majoring in Economics and Mathematics. He is from Swampscott, Massachusetts and competed in Public Forum debate in high school. Before his service on board, Jack was a tournament director of the Yale IV and a social chair of the YDA. Outside of debate, Jack enjoys cooking, playing Bananagrams, and listening to and watching opera. He can be reached at jack.kelly@yale.edu.

Treasurer/Director of Finances: Ko Lyn Cheang. Ko Lyn is a junior in Grace Hopper College majoring in Philosophy. She is from Singapore, Singapore. Ko Lyn debated in World Schools Debate and Asian Parliamentary debate with her secondary school and junior college. Prior to her serving on board, Ko Lyn was a tournament director of the Yale IV and equity officer for the YDA. Apart from debate, Ko Lyn enjoys writing, journalism and photography. Director of Development: Trent Kannegieter. Trent is a junior in Saybrook College studying History and Human Rights. Born and raised in Daphne, Alabama, he competed in Congressional Debate in high school. Before serving on board, Trent was a director for the Yale Invitational high school speech and debate tournament. Director of Tournaments: Alexander Gordon. Alex is a sophomore in Grace Hopper College majoring in political science. He is from Boca Raton, Florida and competed in Congressional Debate in high school.
