The Executive Board


The Yale Debate Association is run by a board of five students who are elected by the team as a whole each year. This board is responsible for everything from selecting the year's class of novice debates and handling the team's finances to making travel arrangements and planning the team's tournaments. Current Board

President: Adela Lilollari. Adela is a junior in Davenport College majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics. She’s originally from Albania, but has lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for most of her life. Before serving as President, she was the team’s tournament coordinator. Apart from debate, Adela likes to read, binge watch bad reality tv shows, and binge watch good reality TV shows. She can be reached at

Director of Membership: Justin Katz. Justin Katz is a junior in Ezra Stiles College majoring in Economics and Math. Originally from Durham, NC, he competed in Public Forum debate in high school. Before serving as Membership Director, Justin was the team’s Director of Development and the Judges Director at the 2015 Yale Invitational. Director of Tournaments: Michael Mao. Michael is a sophomore in Pierson College majoring in Economics. Michael is from Melbourne, Australia, and competed in a 3 vs. 3 style of debate in high school. Before serving on board, he was Concessions Director at the Yale Invitational High School Tournament. Outside debate, Michael enjoys soccer, TV and brunch. He can be reached at

Director of Development: Miles Saffran. Miles Saffran is a junior in Morse College planning to major in Computer Science.  Originally from Winter Park, FL, he competed in Extemporaneous Speaking in high school.  Before serving as Development Director, Miles was the Tournament Director for the Yale IV.  Outside of debate, Miles enjoys going to Mory’s, playing Halo, and looking at pictures of baby pugs.  He can be reached at

Treasurer: Marina Tan. Marina is a junior in Timothy Dwight College majoring in Biomedical Engineering. She hails from Penang, Malaysia, and while she did not do much debate then, enjoys both the American and international flavors of British Parliamentary and American Parliamentary debate now. She spends most of her time working in a lab and debating, but has newly discovered America’s greatest contribution to the world, Netflix. She can be reached at
